The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies (MPIfG) conducts basic research on the governance of modern societies. It aims to develop an empirically based theory of the social and political foundations of modern economies by investigating the interrelation between social, economic, and political action.

We are currently seeking

Visiting Researchers (f/m/d)

for our Visiting Researchers Program. The program is intended for researchers from the fields of economic sociology and comparative and international political economy and offers stays generally ranging from two to twelve months. Applications are welcome from professors, postdoctoral and doctoral researchers based either in Germany or abroad. Your intended research project should relate to the MPIfG's research program and ongoing projects at the Institute. Visiting researchers need to bring their own funding. Applicants are asked to provide a funding plan for their stay. If your application is successful, you will receive a letter of invitation that you can use to approach funding institutions.

Successful candidates are chosen on the basis of scholarly excellence and a research proposal (up to three pages) outlining a project to be pursued at the MPIfG.

A collaborative and collegial working environment is integral to the MPIfG. Starting from the application process, we are committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all of our employees. The compatibility of career and family is also one of our key concerns, as is the employment of people with disabilities.

Please submit your application in English or German through our online application system by October 31, 2024 (10:00 am UTC+1) for summer semester 2025. Applications by email cannot be considered. For further information on the program and how to apply, please visit our website. As a small research institute, we are only able to offer a limited number of positions for visiting researchers each year.
