The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies (MPIfG) invites applications from postdoctoral researchers (m/f/d) in Social Science in the following areas:

- Political Economy (Prof. Dr. Lucio Baccaro)
- Economic Sociology (Prof. Dr. Jens Beckert)

The MPIfG offers two-year contracts based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD E 13), starting on September 1 or October 1, 2024. The Institute provides an attractive environment for postdoctoral researchers to pursue their own research projects within the scope of the Institute’s research program.

Successful candidates are chosen on the basis of scholarly excellence, a research proposal outlining a project to be pursued at the MPIfG (up to 3 pages), and a job interview in person or via video conference. Postdoctoral researchers have their own office at the MPIfG. They are expected to reside in the Cologne area, work at the Institute, and actively participate in its intellectual life.

The MPIfG conducts basic research on the governance of modern societies. It aims to develop an empirically based theory of the social and political foundations of modern economies by investigating the interrelation between social, economic, and political action. Building on the disciplinary traditions of sociology and political science, the Institute’s research program aims to combine and develop the approaches of new economic sociology and comparative and international political economy.

The Max Planck Society advocates diversity and equality. In particular we welcome applications from women and applicants with disabilities.

We look forward to receiving your online application. It should be submitted in English or German. Applications by email cannot be considered. For further information on the program and on how to apply, please visit the Applications page of our website. The deadline for applications is December 15, 2023 (23:59 CET). Applicants will be notified whether or not they have been successful at the end of February.
